Vejle Bryghus Baltic Porter
Brewery: Vejle Bryghus
Type: Baltic Porter
Alcohol: 7.3%
Country: Denmark
Got this striaght from the source in Vejle. Baltic Porter is not a beer type I have a lot of expeirience with. It is not that common, as far as I know. So I have not had a chance to try many. Had a pull of this one right off the tap in the back of the brewery. Lets not ruin the review, but suffice to say I will be looking for other Baltic porters in the future.
Pours a dark dark brown. Massive tan head on the pour, sticks around forever. Taste is roasted dark malt up front with a trailing bit of coffee and caramel. It has that certain lagered taste to it far into the background, but it is vague and hardly noticeable. My problem in the past with baltics is the slightly metallic taste I have found in many other examples. Nothing like that exists here. It is like a good schwarzbier only far more highly roasted. Medium to high mouthfeel, very very carbonated beer. Bit syrupy and sweet as it warms up, but still highly drinkable. This would give some of my favorite dark lagers a run for their money. All in all this was my most pleasant surprise from Vejle Bryghus. Enjoyed my two bottles and would buy it again in a second.
