I have been looking forward to this one for the whole month. Fanø Julebryg is totally different then most of the other Christmas beers brewed around this time. The only Christmas porter I have seen, and I love a good porter. This pours absolutely jet black with a nice tan head, it wasn't that big but that is probably because I was an idiot and poured it into a giant balloon. Thankfully it worked to my advantage in the smell department. A huge aroma of dark chocolate and vanilla mixed with roasted malt. The vanilla is very pronounced and just amazing. The taste is a big roasted taste with dark bitter chocolate that gives way to a smooth vanilla aftertaste. Reminds me of drinking a good coffee flavored with vanilla. There is a subtle spiciness that gives an interesting little twist on the flavor, like a little nutmeg or cinnamon sprinkled in. This beer certainly didn't dissapoint. It will certainly be my go to for the holiday table.
