Midtfyns Jule Stout
Type: Stout
Alcohol:7.6%
Country: Denmark
Finally getting around to Midtfyns Jule Stout, it has been staring at me from the back of the fridge all December. I have heard great things about this beer, thats why I saved it until the end of the calendar (I even bought a Midtfyns glass to honor it). Pours pitch black with a huge three finger head that is there for the long haul. The smell is huge with roasted malts, chocolate, and a little bit of spicy licorice. The taste is off the charts. This would be an amazing stout all on it's own without any Christmas attached. You get all the really roasted and chocolate taste right up front, which leads into just a slight taste of licorice from star anise in the end. I think the star anise is the Christmasy flavor for this beer, luckily it does not distract from the great stout taste. If anything it actually compliments it (and I usually hate licorice). This is quite a bitter beer, but more like a bitter chocolate then hops. This beer has a lot of taste packed in for a non "imperial" stout. It was well worth the wait and I can honestly say it is the best Christmas beer I have had so far.
