Paulaner Hefe WeisbierBrewery: Paulaner Brauerei Type: Hefeweizen

Alcohol: 5.5%

Country: Germany

This is one of the quintisential hefe weizen beers. It was the first hefe I ever tried. Back when I first started to stray away from known beer territory, this was one of the first unknown types I bought on a trip to Germany. I remember the revelation of a totally different flavor then i was used to in a beer.

Pours a beautiful orange color with a fluffy tall white head. The smell is totally heffe. Sweet wheat malt with the fruity spicy smell of bananas, cinnamon and clove. A very sweet taste with a pronounced banana taste. It is a very smooth beer, the spice from the nose is not overpowering in the beer. There is a little bitter bite in the end to balance the sweetness and just a pleasant aftertaste of fruit and wheat. The mouthfeel is so smooth and creamy. I may not be the biggest fan of this style overall (more a hophead then a fruit guy), but I recocnize this as a great beer and by far my favorite of this style.
