Ugly Duck Imperial Vanilla Coffee Porter

Pours black with a big three finger head. The smell is toasty malts a bit of smoke and a touch of coffee. Taste is a big bunch of roasted smokey malt steeped in dark coffee.The label says the brewer had to spend an entire day brewing coffee for this beer. well it comes through as the taste permeates the beer and even competes with the huge taste of dark roasted grains in what I am guessing was quite a grist. I don't get a lot of vanilla, although there is a mellow sweetness somewhere in the aftertaste, but it is mostly lost to the other bigger flavors. Its quite a bitter beer, but that seems to be more from the coffee then anything else. It has a pretty slick mouthfeel with a nice little carbed bite. A really nice beer that you could drink easily without even suspecting the high alcohol level.
