To Øl Goliat Brewery: To Øl

Type: Imperial Stout

Alcohol: 10.1%

Country: Denmark

Oh man I have had my eye out for this one for a long time. It is in the top half of my top 50 beers in Denmark list. Have not seen it around this part of Denmark, I had almost given up being able to get this beer. But then on a hot day after work when I walked into the bar to get a refreshing IPA, there it was on the tap board! All thoughts of IPA left my mind immediately and I settled in for a big dark meal of a beer.

Pours jet black with a massive glass defying almost three fingered head. Rich super roasted malt nose. Lots of chocolate and a bit of vanilla maybe. The taste is incredibly rich and quite complex. Huge highly roasted malts dominate. Bitter dark roasted barley and smooth chocolate clash to make a really rich and complex taste. There is a nice bit of very bitter coffee in the aftertaste. The coffee taste is not overpowering but is nice and round and goes well with the big roastiness of this brew. Very full body, relatively creamy and smooth for such a big stout. Weighing in at 10.1% it is difficult to hide that much alcohol. A little boozy, especially as it warms, but deftly hidden for the most part.
