Brewing an IPA so I am drinking an IPA. It is a brew day, in fact my first harvested yeast brew day. I am making a SMASH IPA with marris otter and citra hops. Seems a good time to have the last of my west coast IPAs from the amazing supermarket haul.
Pours a relatively clear effervescent orange color. Small white head fades quickly into a fizzy cloudscape on top of the beer. Good lacing follows the head down the glass. Aroma is lots of citrus, grapefruit, and little bit of floral. Lot of hops almost no malt in the nose. The nose is all citrus hops, the taste is much much more floral and pine. Also a nice little bit of toffee malt coming in, nice. The cascade rules this beer. Piney and citrus zest combines nicely with that malt taste to make a great classic IPA taste. This beer is no slouch in the bitterness department. Super bitter bite followed by a nice citrus aftertaste. Medium body, not too dry. This is a fantastic example of a more floral bitter IPA, like my favorite IPA, Bell's Two Hearted. This isn't quite that great but it gives me hope that if this brand takes off in Denmark, then I will have an awesome IPA to hold me over until I can get more of my beloved Two Hearted.
