Thirsty Trout

I always grab any Michigan beer I see on the shelves here in Denmark. I especially grab it is it is called "Thirsty Trout". Hell I didn't even know it was a porter until I got it home. Let me tell you, this beer is certainly not going to change my policy on buying every Michigan beer.
Pours very dark, only holding it up to direct light will show anything through the color. Thin small tan head, but it sticks around on the top. The nose is big sweet roasted malt and lots and lots of chocolate. Chocolate overload is how I would describe this beer. The taste is heavy with roasted barley, but even more so on the chocolate. This is one of those beers that is so chocolatey it almost tastes artificial. Not that I am saying the chocolate taste is bad, quite the contrary. When combined with the amazing creamy and light mouthfeel, it is really amazing. Decent amount of licorice taste, which I usually am not a huge fan of in dark beers, but here it helps to balance the rich chocolate taste. Little bit of tongue vibrating hops. If you are looking for a balanced porter, this is not it, the chocolate is a show stealer. if you are looking for probably one of the easiest drinking porters I have ever had, well this is the one. Dark Horse does another solid beer in my book.
