Mikkeller/Lervig Double Eye PA
Type: Imperial/Double IPA
Alcohol: 14%
Country: Denmark/Norway
This is a nice cloudy orange color, pretty opaque with a lot of little floating bits. Those are always the tastiest bits! No real head to speak of but I can smell it from across the table. The nose is huge, sweet and malty. The high alcohol content is pretty evident in the aroma, I am betting that is going to transfer into the taste. I am of course right, the taste is intensely malty and sweet. There is a little bit of bitterness and citrusy hop flavor that sneaks in under the mountain of malt. The mouthfeel is medium, the alcohol is very present but it is not hot and overpowering. This beer reminds me a lot of DogfishHead's 90 minute IPA, a ton of malt flavor and a background bitterness. While it is super sweet and very alcohol forward it is by no means a bad beer. Just not the best imperial IPA I have ever had. Wish there was more hop flavor and less sweetness and alcohol.
