Köstritzer Schwarzbier Brewery: Köstritzer

Type: Schwarzbier

Alcohol: 4.8%

Country: Germany

This beer will always have a special place in my heart. Köstritzer schwarzbier  was the first beer of this style I ever had and really got me started in exploring what else was out there in the beer world. This is also the beer I have used to convert two of my friends from  light pilsners to the dark side of beer.

This beer pours black, hence the name black beer. It has a nice almost two finger head with nice lacing. The smell is of deep roasted caramel malts with just a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. The taste is roasted malt and coffee with a small bite of bitter chocolate and a pleasant aftertaste. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. This is one of my favorite beers of all time, and I almost always have some around. For me to praise a lager this much you know it has to be good, so if you can find it give it a try, you can thank me later.

Rating: 7/10
