Best New Brewery 2015
Beer blog Stovt has challenged each of the blogs in Denmark to do a series of best of the year posts. None of us collaborated on these in advance so the choices are completely up to the blogger or bloggers themselves. Today's category is "Best Danish Brewery of 2015" The choice for the years best new brewery was not difficult for me. This brewery has it all. The Cinderella story of homebrewer to pro-brewer. Fantastic beers with fantastic ideas behind them, and most importantly of all he is just a cool dude. Of course I'm talking about Alefarm brewing, Denmark's new sour brewery darling.
I met Andreas of Alefarm at CBC two years ago, where correct me if I am wrong here Andreas but I think I congratulated you on winning the Mikkeller homebrew contest (or asked you to stop the room from spinning). Anyhow it's really amazing to go from CBC participant to serving your beers at CBC in such a short amount of time. It really shows how dedicated he is to the craft and how great the beers are. The clean beers are great, favorite pastime was a super solid beer, made even more so by the fact it was the first commercial release from the brewery! The sours however are the ones that really shine. Funk Orchard, the big dry hopped sour farmhouse ale, was probably one of the best beers I had this year. That is not just hyperbole, it was a fantastic beer to drink.
Now Alefarm will have their own brewery, barrel room, and taphouse in Copenhagen. So the only problem with the brewery; that they couldn't make a lot of beer, is now solved! I personally can't wait to start seeing Alefarm more widely available and I totally look forward to seeing what they will do next. Amazing job doing so much in such a short time. Best new brewery hands down.
Stay tuned tomorrows pick is for the years best foreign brewery!
