Brew Dog Hardcore IPABrewery: Brewdog Type: Imperial/Double IPA

Alcohol: 9.2%

Country: Scotland

I tried Brewdog and Mikkeller's blended Imperial IPA "I Hardcore You" at Odense's Pale Ale Festival. I thought it would be nice to try the beers this one was blended from. I can't get a hold of Mikkeller's "I Beat You", but I happen to have a bottle of "Hardcore IPA" in the fridge. Lets see if this beer is better alone.

Pours a nice normal orangish imperial IPA color. Very opaque with a very thin white head. Aroma is citrus hops, very sweet with a little sharp alcohol. The taste is a mix of citrusy and earthy hops. The hops are competing with big malt and hot alcohol for dominance. The marris otter gives it a nice toffee malt background but there is a bit of alcohol burn sneaking into the aftertaste. The beer is bitter, but not as bitter as some over the top imperial IPAs. It really allows you to actually pick out the characteristics of the hops used, rather then just be blown away by their bitterness. This is a nice Imperial IPA, I like the hop character and the level of maltiness, but I could do without the relatively strong alcohol taste. Overall a really easy drinking Imperial IPA that I would have again in a second.
